Overview of grid
In Greece, IPTO (TSO) and HEDNO (DSO) are primarily the responsible authorities for the grid procedure. A basic grid connection procedure is in place, while exemptions may apply. RES are prioritised with regard the use of grid and there are curtailment provisions for interconnected wind power plants. Concerning grid development, two basic categories of grid development works are foreseen and are included in IPTO’s/ HEDNO’s development plans.
Finally, the pilot programme on smart-meters in the residential and tertiary sector aims at providing support for the installation of 170,000 smart meters in Greece. The total amount of the programme is EUR 39 million. The latest call has been finally annulled in April 2021. However, a new will be issued in 2021.
Connection to the grid
The basic grid connection procedure includes the issue of a Preliminary Grid Connection Offer by IPTO (TSO) or HEDNO (DSO), the issue of a Binding Grid Connection Offer, the submission of the guarantee letter by the RES plant operator, the realisation of grid connection works and the final connection to the grid. A simplified connection procedure is followed for smaller plants under a net-metering scheme.
Use of the grid
Curtailment is foreseen for wind power plants connected to the interconnected system.
Grid development
There are two categories of grid development works. General grid development works included in IPTO’s/ HEDNO’s development plans and specific grid development works that are specified between the RES plant operator and IPTO/ HEDNO.
