A call for applications for a grant up to EUR60k to help EU islands advance their work on energy transition processes and specific projects is open until December 18th.
This is the 1st call under the European Islands Facility (NESOI), set up to help islands transform their long-term ambitions into a set of plans and project outlines.
By 2021, Member States are required to transpose the relevant EC Directives (e.g. EMD II, RED II) into national legislation to facilitate the widespread establishment of energy communities. But how can energy communities be established and operated in a sustainable manner across EU Member States? This question keeps many energy market stakeholders busy. A host of inter-dependent organizational, technical, social, regulatory and business aspects need to be carefully balanced to achieve sustainable operation from an environmental & financial perspective.
This 3-hour online workshop aims to deliver initial results and lessons learnt from the experience of five sister H2020 projects on energy islands – namely COMPILE, iELECTRIX, MERLON, MUSE GRIDS.

Over the past two years, the Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat – an initiative on behalf of the European Commission – has successfully supported islands all over the EU by building the capacities of islanders and island transition teams through a number of workshops and webinars, and by providing technical support on projects.
The energy transition on the EU islands requires including multiple stakeholders, and engaging decision-makers at all levels together with community representatives, so they can work towards the same goal and vision.
Due to the current health and travel situation, this year's edition of the Clean Energy for EU Islands Forum will be held online.
The programme will focus on creating stronger links between the EU institutions and the local actions on the island. Representatives from different institutions will introduce their role in creating the enabling framework for the decarbonisation of EU islands, and island communities will present and discuss their activities with peers and EU representatives.
