Workshop: Culatra, a sustainable energy community

Culatra was one of the six pilot islands during the Clean energy for EU islands pilot phase. In cooperation with Culatra's transition team - including representatives of Algarve University and the NGO Make it better - the Secretariat organised a 2-day workshop covering relevant topics such as electricity generation, storage and distribution, maritime transport, water supply and treatment, waste management and energy efficiency.

Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund

The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund was established under the provisions of Article 60, paragraph 5, of the Environmental Protection Act (OG 82/94 and 128/99) and Article 11 of the Energy Act (OG 68/01). The Act on the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund was published in the Official Gazette No. 107/03), and it is applied as of 1 January 2004.

Small Islands Organisation

The NGO Small Islands Organisation (SMILO) supports small islands of less than 150km² towards the sustainable management of their territory and resources. It bolsters integrated operations for the preservation of islands’ natural resources, in relation to water and sanitation, waste, energy, biodiversity, landscapes and heritage issues. The Sustainable Island label rewards the positive local dynamics and sustainable practices. Currently, 18 islands are involved in the labelling process.

GEPS Techno

GEPS Techno has developed a hybrid renewable energy platform called WAVEGEM. It's autonomous and unmmaned for offshore and nearshore activities, replacing diesel generators in isolated places, where the access to electrical power is limited and off-grid.
