EP Think Thank Publishes Guide to EU Funding 2023 Edition

The European Union provides financial support to a diverse range of beneficiaries, including regional and local authorities, NGOs, businesses, professionals, and citizens. To facilitate easy access to this information, the European Parliamentary Research Service has created the 'Guide to EU funding.' This comprehensive guide presents a user-friendly compilation of EU funding sources, categorized by their specific areas of action.

Ireland: Our Living Islands

The Irish Department of Rural and Community Development has launched its first Irish Islands policy in 27 years. Due to the lobbying work of  Aran Islands Energy Coop the policy is taking the study on Regulatory barriers in Ireland drafted by the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat into account. Stating that the coastal islands and their communities are an integral part of the fabric of rural Ireland. They are also an integral part of the State’s heritage and have a special significance in Irish culture.

Report: Technical Assistance for A Illa de Arousa

This Technical Assistance aims to support the electrification of A Illa de Arousa's port and mussel farming activities. The wind potential and solar potential of the island were analysed, indicating that a small-scale wind turbine and ground-mounted solar PV system could generate significant electricity. The future energy consumption of the port was estimated, and different charging profiles for the electrified vessels were created.

CETA: Technical Assistance for Ceantar na nOileán

The island Ceantar na nOileán applied for technical assistance under the Clean Energy Transition for Ceantar na nOileán project. The Island Clean Energy Transition Agenda, developed by the local community, outlines a shared vision for the island's clean energy transition. A draft of Part I of the agenda has been created, and a public meeting was held to discuss the development of the agenda, with insights shared from the Danish island of Samsø.

8th HAEE Energy Transition Symposium

As the world suffrages through a global energy crisis, a shock of unprecedented breadth and complexity is unfolding. While markets were pressured before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russia's actions have transformed a rapid economic recovery from the pandemic - which strained global supply chains, among them energy - into a full-blown energy crisis.

Welcome to the next phase of the EU islands secretariat!

The third phase of the EU islands secretariat has started and we are delighted to continue supporting island communities with their energy transition in the next four years.

Under the slogan 30 for 30, the EU islands secretariat will work towards 30 renewable energy islands by 2030. We have a lot of activities planned for the next years.

Our technical assistance will be featured more prominently with an expert network of more than 100 experts available, covering not only the power sector but also local engagement, transport, heating and cooling and pockets of industry.

Agenda available: Clean energy for EU islands Forum 2023

30 for 30 | 30 renewable islands for 2023

In 2023 we will select 30 islands that want to become fully renewable by 2030. Achieving fully renewable-energy-powered islands is the North Star objective for the third phase of the Clean energy for EU island secretariat. At the #CE4EUislands forum 2023, we will discuss all the building blocks to be able to achieve that ambition.

We are happy to share our agenda with you. Look forward to interesting keynotes by island stakeholders, an exciting site visit and parallel workshops with experts and island representatives.
