Caribbean and Latin American Cities Progress in Climate Action: Global Covenant of Mayors Meeting during Climate Week 2023

The «Meeting of Latin American and Caribbean Cities of the Global Covenant of Mayors» took place with the participation of over 20 mayors from across the region on October 23 and 24 in the vibrant Panama City as part of the Climate Week 2023.This meeting was co-organized with the support of the European Union, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and the City Climate Finance Gap Fund. It marked the first-ever gathering of cities from both the Caribbean and Latin America regions, aimed at sharing their experiences and exchanging insights on key actions and challenges.

The NESOI Platform

The NESOI platform is underpinned by explicit goals designed to facilitate a sustainable shift towards clean energy. While it does not exclusively focus on specific categories, it has predominantly extended invitations to island stakeholders, including local governing bodies, energy agencies, project developers, and technology providers, due to the historical trajectory of the project.

UIB Secures €18.7 Million for Campus Energy Transformation

The University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) has secured €18.7 million from a competitive call within the framework of Spain's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, thanks to funding from the EU's Next Generation funds. These funds will enable the transformation of Palma's university campus into an energy-efficient, self-sustaining space with zero carbon emissions.

ISLANDER: Start of installation phase on the island of Borkum

The ISLANDER project has reached a significant milestone with the initiation of the installation phase on the island of Borkum this August. This marks a notable step forward in the project's efforts to introduce advanced energy solutions, contributing to the decarbonisation of the island. The installations include 30 household PV+Li-ion solutions and 3 building PV + Li-ion battery solutions.
