Country-level measures
The key measures that the Italian Government has implemented to incentivise sustainable mobility in the private sector are:
- Ecobonus: grant for the purchase of electric, hybrid and thermal vehicles characterised by low CO2 emissions. The amount of money dedicated to the Ecobonus is decided on an annual basis.
- Bonus for e-vehicles recharging stations for companies and professionals (2023-2024), supporting the purchase of recharging stations for e-vehicles with a grant of 40% of the investment cost. The first round of validity of this measure ended in 2024.
In addition to this, several national and regional funds ensure grants to Municipalities for the purchase of electric buses and service vehicles.

Island-specific measures
There are no specific mechanisms for the promotion of sustainable mobility for citizens and the private sector on the small Italian islands.
However, the Municipalities of islands are often beneficiaries of dedicated funding schemes including sustainable transport (e.g., e-bikes, car sharing, electric buses) as possible interventions, such as:
- Call for Interventions for Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Mobility and Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts in Small Islands (2017).
- National Resilience and Recovery Plan - measure "Green Islands", assigning 200 M€ to interventions on energy, water, transport and waste for the 19 small non interconnected islands (2022).
Regional grants might also be or become available depending on the specific territorial context.
