RES support schemes
Croatia supports a wide range of technologies for electricity generation, energy efficiency, heating, cooling and transport through different schemes. The Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development offers lending instruments to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Electricity generation from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power is supported by a feed-in tariff/premium. For transport there is support through a subsidy scheme for low- or zero-emission vehicles and there is a quota for the use of biofuel.
Support schemes:
- Technology-neutral investment loans for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
- Feed-in tariffs and Feed-in Premiums are awarded through tender procedures operated by the Croatian Energy Market Operator
- A net metering system applies to electricity-producing consumers. Produced electricity must be used primarily for own consumption.
- Subsidies are granted for the purchase of private electric vehicles and public transportation buses with low and very low CO2 emissions.
- Croatia has a biofuel quota that obliges fuel producers to include a percentage biofuel into their products.
- Croatia co-finances the development of the alternative fuels infrastructure such as charging infrastructure.

-
Using renewable energy sources in transportation (RES-T) is supported by several specific measures. RES-T is supported for private citizens, the private sector and the public sector. Support is usually in the form of subsidies for vehicles with low or zero emissions using renewable energy sources or other advanced technologies and in the form of a quota for biofuels and RES usage in transportation (the national target for usage of biofuels and renewable energy sources in transportation). The Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan for the Republic of Croatia for the period 2021-2030 sets a national RES target of 14.0% in the direct consumption of energy in transport.

Summary of support schemes
- Subsidy for the purchase of public transportation buses with low CO2 emissions – The second call for co-financing the purchase of buses for city public transportation services serves pre-determined public transportation companies in the Republic of Croatia for the purpose of increasing the usage of RES or low CO2 vehicles in their fleet.
- Subsidy for the purchase of energy efficient vehicles – The Public call for co-financing of energy efficient vehicles serves private citizens, the private sector, and the public sector for the purpose of purchasing RES or very low-emissions vehicles and increasing the usage of RES in transportation in the Republic of Croatia.
- Biofuel quota (the national target for usage of biofuels and renewable energy sources in transportation) –
- Support for RES-T infrastructure – The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund (FZOEU) also publishes a public call for co-financing of the development of the alternative fuels infrastructure (RES-T infrastructure). Currently no such call is open.
