Overview
Portugal Energy’s Efficiency targets and measures have been recently updated by the country’s National Energy and Climate Plan 2030 and the Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality 2050, with the former establishing a commitment of increasing the country’s energy efficiency to 32.5% by 2030 (NECP).
Energy efficiency developments registered up until 31st December 2020 will be analysed by the measuring system introduced by the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency (PNAEE), whereas new policies and measures will be evaluated by the new system introduced by the NECP 2030.
Summary of measures
- Barometer of the Energy Efficiency Programme for the Public Administration 2030 - ECO.AP 2030 – An important instrument that the country is implementing to increase its energy efficiency for the period 2021-2030 is the Energy Efficiency Programme for the Public Administration 2030 (ECO.AP 2030), which consists of monitoring and disseminating best practices to increase in energy efficiency in entities belonging to the public administration. The will be implemented by means of the Barometer ECO.AP, an online platform in which energy efficiency reports from public administration entities will be uploaded.
- Management System for Intensive Energy Consumption - DL 68-A/2015 – Second amendment to dl 71/2008, which introduced the Management System for Intensive Energy Consumption (SGCIE), a mechanism that evaluates, via auditing, energy intensive facilities’ compliance and improvements related to energy efficiency.
- Incentive Programme for the Implementation or Improvement of Sustainable Features in Buildings - The initiative envisages the dissemination and execution of small and easy-to-conclude renovations and constructions in buildings throughout the territory, making them more sustainable and in sync with the national targets for carbon neutrality and energy efficiency.
