Overview
Malta does not have a wide number of energy efficiency measures.
Maltese authorities, however, issue an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for buildings, as EPC is currently required for buildings to be sold or rented.
In the past, there have been support schemes and grants available, such as the grant on the purchase of roof insulation and double-glazing products for domestic use that reduce the consumption of energy, but currently most of these schemes have been exhausted.
Summary of measures
EPC is a requirement of Directive 2010/31/EU of the European Parliament. The goal is to promote better energy performance for buildings. An EPC is carried out by an Energy Performance of Buildings (EPB) assessor recognised by the Building Regulation Office (BRO).
A list of registered EPB Assessors is available on the EPC Portal website at https://secure2.gov.mt/epc/information-assessors?l=1.
Currently, an EPC is compulsory for most buildings and dwellings being sold or rented in Malta.
There also exists another double glazing scheme but it has not been officially extended for 2021 yet:
