Island facts
Manoel Island is a small island located in the middle of Marsamxett Harbour and forms part of Gżira in Malta. It is named after the Portuguese Grand Master
António Manoel de Vilhena, who built a fort on the island in the 1720s. A bridge connects the island to mainland Malta. Manoel Island is a critical part of Malta’s history and remains a much-loved part of the local landscape and culture.
MIDI plc, a Maltese company listed on the Malta Stock Exchange, has submitted a comprehensive planning application for the development of Manoel Island. The proposed development includes three residential clusters comprising 323 residential units. These clusters will be situated in the southern and central parts of the island.
The master plan for a mixed-use development emphasises creating more open and larger public spaces. This synergy is envisaged to strengthen the island's attraction to potential visitors and residents.
