Description of the process
Due to lack of space, the majority of PV installations in Malta are positioned on residential houses. Large-scale installations (ground mounted PV) need to follow the Solar Farm Policy (published by the Planning Authority) which directs development of PV installations towards specific brownfield sites. The Solar Farm Policy of Malta (SFP 2017) has identified preferred locations and exclusion zones for solar energy development.
