Tinos is the third-largest island in the Cyclades, covering 197 km² with a population of around 8,934 residents. It lies southeast of Andros and northwest of Mykonos in the northern Cyclades. Known for its picturesque landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and historical sites, tourism, agriculture, and maritime activities drive the island's economy. Tinos features rugged terrain, with its highest peak, Tsiknias, at 726 meters and a coastline of 114 kilometres, including several islets. The island is well-connected to nearby islands, making it a popular destination while preserving its authentic Greek charm.

Tinos is integrated into the national grid, and its electricity supply is interconnected with the mainland system through Andros and Syros. The island has adopted the same energy mix as the mainland, with a renewable energy source (RES) penetration of 57%, indicating a strong commitment to clean energy solutions. To further contribute to this transition, Tinos has installed approximately 355 kW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity and 3,100 kW of onshore wind energy, helping reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and enhancing the island’s energy security. The total annual energy demand of the island is estimated at 268 GWh, encompassing electricity, heating, cooling, and transportation needs.

As part of the Follower Islands Programme, Tinos aims to accelerate its energy transition by focusing on green fuels and expanding the use of electric vehicles (EVs) in the transport sector. The Municipality plans to replace half of the existing public transportation fleet with EVs to decrease carbon emissions and promote sustainable mobility. Furthermore, a shared bicycle system is being introduced to encourage environmentally friendly transportation options for residents and visitors.

The island of Tinos is interconnected with the mainland electrical system through the islands of Andros and Syros. More specifically, Tinos is interconnected at the point of Livadi of Euboea through Andros and at the point of Lavrio of Attiki through Syros. Tinos is interconnected with Syros at medium voltage via 1 submarine cable of 66 kV, 1 submarine cable of 150 kV and two submarine cables at high voltage (3x150 Al, 20 kV). At last, Tinos is also connected with the neighbouring island Mykonos via one cable of 66 kV.
