Skopelos is a picturesque island located in the Sporades cluster of the northern Aegean Sea, known for its lush landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and charming villages. The island is part of the interconnected power system, and its economy is primarily driven by tourism, agriculture, and local services. With a population that fluctuates significantly due to seasonal tourism, Skopelos offers a combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage, making it a popular destination for visitors from around the world.

Skopelos is connected to the mainland grid through medium-voltage submarine cables, with several connections between the islands in the Sporades cluster. The electricity interconnection links Skiathos, Skopelos, and Alonissos, allowing for a more stable electricity supply, especially during the high-demand periods associated with tourism. Currently, the island has a RES penetration of 57%, similar to the mainland, and solar energy is being integrated, with approximately 209 kW of solar PV installed. The total energy consumption across the islands in the Sporades is estimated to be 388 GWh, with a focus on reducing reliance on fossil fuels and integrating renewable sources to reduce carbon emissions.

Skopelos aims to become more energy-efficient and sustainable through ongoing and planned projects, including establishing a renewable energy community. By integrating renewable energy sources and promoting energy efficiency, Skopelos strives to protect its natural environment and contribute to the broader goals of decarbonization in the EU while supporting the island's economic development through sustainable practices.

Sporades island cluster is part of the interconnected power system. Sporades are connected to the mainland, in the Pelio region, through medium voltage submarine cables. The interconnection of the three islands of Sporades (Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos) is also achieved through medium-voltage submarine cables. Skopelos is connected with Skiathos via four cables of 1x50 Cu-20 kV, and two cables of 3x150 Al. Skiathos is connected to the mainland via four cables: 1x95 Cu- 20 kV, two cables 3x150 Al – 20 kV, and one cable 3x95 Cu – 20 kV. Lastly, Skopelos is connected to Alonissos via two cables, 3x35 Cu- 20 kV
