Clean energy for EU islands

Culatra was one of the six pilot islands during the Clean energy for EU islands pilot phase. In cooperation with Culatra's transition team - including representatives of Algarve University and the NGO Make it better - the Secretariat organised a 2-day workshop covering relevant topics such as electricity generation, storage and distribution, maritime transport, water supply and treatment, waste management and energy efficiency.

The first day took place in 13 February 2019 in Faro, where all important stakeholders from different levels of authorities participated together with local citizens, representatives of University and different companies. On 14 February 2019, all participants undertook a field visit to Culatra island and participated in the workshop with local citizens. The second day ended with a signing ceremony, where all interested parties were able to sign the pledge and commit themselves to work together with the aim of achieving the goals planned in the strategy document.
