It is the European Islands Facility's NESOI objective to facilitate energy transition on islands. In this context NESOI has started a first call for applications in October 2020. In March, NESOI has completed the evaluation of its call for applications for energy transition projects on European islands. Out of 74 eligible project proposals at least 28 will receive funding and technical support to develop their island's energy projects.
In total, NESOI received 117 project porposals from 14 countries,74 of which were considered eligible for funding. These proposals involved over 100 islands. The European Islands facitly curently aims to support at least 28 projects from 10 countries. However, a reserve list includes projects with potential for funding at a later stage.
A dialogue with the selected projects has been already innitiated by NESOI partners. It is to be expected that these projects will begin their activities in the first week of May.
A second call for applications will be announced in autumn 2021.
