Description of support scheme

Various grants are given for the purchase of new electric vehicles and for the scrappage of vehicles that have been in circulation for more than ten years.

Amount

For Private individuals the following options exist:
- €9,000 when registering a new electric passenger or light goods vehicle while de-registering and scrapping another passenger, bus/coach or light or heavy goods internal combustion engine vehicle which is at least 10 years old from its year of manufacture.
- €8,000 when registering a new electric passenger or light goods vehicle without de-registering and scrapping an older internal combustion engine vehicle.
- 5,000 when registering a used electric passenger or light goods vehicle and is not older than 6 months from date of first registration and does not exceed 6,000km on the odometer, while de-registering and scrapping another passenger, bus/coach or light or heavy goods internal combustion engine vehicle which is at least 10 years old from its year of manufacture;
- €4,000 when registering a used electric passenger or light goods vehicle and is not older than 6 months from date of first registration and does not exceed 6,000km on the odometer without de-registering and scrapping another internal combustion engine vehicle;
- €3,000 when registering a used electric passenger or light goods vehicle and is not older than 36 months from date of first registration and does not exceed 15,000km on the odometer, while de-registering and scrapping another passenger, bus/coach or light or heavy goods internal combustion engine vehicle which is at least 10 years old from its year of manufacture;
- €2,000 when registering a used electric passenger or light goods vehicle and is not older than 36 months from date of first registration and does not exceed 15,000km on the odometer without de-registering and scrapping another internal combustion engine vehicle;
- €1,000 when registering a used electric passenger or light goods vehicle and is older than 36 months but not exceeding 72 months from date of first registration.
For Registered Companies and Partnerships, Local Councils, Registered NGOs, Self-Employed, and Cooperatives the following options exist:
- €9,000 when registering a new electric passenger vehicle while de-registering and scrapping another passenger, bus/coach or light or heavy goods internal combustion engine vehicle which is at least 10 years old from its year of manufacture;
- €8,000 when registering a new electric passenger vehicle category without de-registering and scrapping another internal combustion engine vehicle;
- €12,000 when registering a new electric light or heavy goods vehicles or bus/coach vehicle category while de-registering and scrapping another passenger, bus/coach or light or heavy goods internal combustion engine vehicle which is at least 10 years old from its year of manufacture;
- €11,000 when registering a new electric light or heavy goods vehicles or bus/coach vehicle without de-registering and scrapping an older internal combustion engine vehicle;
- €5,000 when registering a used electric passenger, bus/coach or light or heavy goods vehicle and is not older than 6 months from date of first registration and does not exceed 6,000km on the odometer while de-registering and scrapping another passenger, bus/coach or light or heavy goods internal combustion engine vehicle which is at least 10 years old from its year of manufacture;
- €4,000 when registering a used electric passenger or light or heavy goods vehicle and is not older than 6 months from date of first registration and does not exceed 6,000km on the odometer without de-registering and scrapping another internal combustion engine vehicle;
- €3,000 when registering a used electric passenger or light or heavy goods vehicle and is not older than 36 months from date of first registration and does not exceed 15,000km on the odometer while de-registering and scrapping another passenger, bus/coach or light or heavy goods internal combustion engine vehicle which is at least 10 years old from its year of manufacture;
- €2,000 when registering a used electric passenger or light or heavy goods vehicle and is not older than 36 months from date of first registration and does not exceed 36,000km on the odometer without de-registering and scrapping another internal combustion engine vehicle;
- €1,000 when registering a used electric passenger or light or heavy goods vehicle and is older than 36 months but not exceeding 72 months from the date of first registration.
Applicants in this category are subject to the De Minimis State Aid Rules.

Addressees

The scheme is applicable to private individuals, registered NGOs, local councils and businesses.

Procedure

An application must be submitted to Transport Malta, accompanied by all the required documents.
