Summary
Currently, there is no specific legal framework with regard to prosumers. Nevertheless, it should be noted that ESB Networks provided the possibility of connecting small RES up to 11kW (PV, wind, small hydro and CHP) to the grid. The plant operators I.e., prosumers were defined as “micro-generators”. “Micro-generators” have entered into agreement with the electricity supplier for the purchase of the exported electricity as well as the supply of imported electricity. In order to promote prosumers and small-scale RES, ESB Networks (DSO) aims at introducing a micro-generation scheme. The draft support scheme aims at the deployment of small-scale RES (wind, hydro, PV up to 50kW and CHP up to 30kW) by prosumers (individuals or renewable energy communities).
The scheme was open for public consultation until February 2021.
