Abbreviated form of legal source(s)

  • Min. Decision 108819/3551
  • Law No. 3054/2002

Description of support scheme

Producers and distributors of petrol and diesel are obliged to blend their fuels with a certain amount ("quota") of biofuels. The mandatory quota is specified in the distribution scheme, which is reviewed every year. It should be noted the no producer or distributor is located on interconnected or non-interconnected island but only on the mainland grid.

Amount of quota and period of application

For 2020, 132.500 kiloliters of biodiesel were distributed, while the min. percentage of biodiesel is set at 7% (art. 1 Min. Decision 108819/3551). As of May 2021, no quota was set for 2021.

Addressees

Companies which have a Biofuels Production Unit Operating Licence and to distributors that possess a Biofuels Distribution Licence. Apart from that, distributors must also possess the necessary storage facilities (art. 15A par. 5 Law No. 3054/2002).

Procedure

By the end of November, MEE issues a call for distribution of biofuels, i.e., the cumulative amount in the following year. The applications are checked and MEE issues the approved distribution scheme, the quota assigned to each registered company and its monthly distribution (art. 15A par. 5 Law No. 3054/2002).
