Promotion of the Sale of Electric Vehicles

The innovation bonus comes on top of the Umweltbonus when buying an electric car. It will be granted until 31st December 2021. Vehicles that cost more than EUR 65,000 are not eligible for the bonus. Used electric cars can also be eligible for support. Their first registration should however not be older than 12 months old and they should not have a kilometer count of more than 15,000 km.

For the purchase of an electric and hydrogen powered vehicle with a price of less than EUR 40,000, the applicant receives € 3,000. For the purchase of an electric and hydrogen powered vehicle with a price between EUR 40,000 and EUR 65,000, the applicant receives € 2,500. The amounts can vary depending on the leasing contract duration.
For the purchase of a plug-in hybrid vehicle with a price of less than EUR 40,000, the applicant receives € 2,250. For plug-in hybrid vehicles with a price between EUR 40.000 and EUR 65,000, the applicant receives € 1,875.
The amounts for leased vehicles vary depending on the leasing contract duration.

Individuals, companies, foundations, corporations, and associations who register a new vehicle and agree to keep the vehicle for six months. The recipient of the grant is the applicant.

After having purchased the car an application can be made at the BAFA.
