Subsidy: Flexibility Premium

  2. Description of support scheme

    Operators of biogas plants that were put into operation before the 1st of August 2014 may apply for a subsidy for providing additionally installed capacity for on-demand use (§ 50b EEG 2021).

  3. Amount

    The yearly amount is EUR 130 per additionally installed kW. The detailed calculation method can be found in Annex 3.2 EEG 2021.

  4. Addressees

    Operators of eligible biogas plants are eligible for the flexibility premium.

  5. Procedure

    Plant operators must inform the grid operator before application for the flexibility premium.

    Biogas is defined as any gas obtained through anaerobic fermentation (§§ 3 and 19 EEG 2021). The plant must be eligible to a subsidy from the date of its commissioning ( Annex 3.1.1 EEG 2021). The electricity must be directly sold to 3rd parties or the on the market (§ 50b EEG 2021).
