Summary

German law differentiates between energy storage installations storing energies from renewable energies or mine gas (§ 3 par. 1 EEG 2021) and other energy storage installations. Energy storage installations must be registered in the market data register (§ 5 MaStRV 2020). They must further fulfil several norms defined by the §49 EnWG 2021. This includes regulations from the Association for Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Information Technology, the Federal Grid Agency and the DIN.
The German TÜV provides programmes to facilitate the certification of an installation (TÜV Rheinland 2021a).
