Premium tariff (Test Wind Turbines)

Abbreviated form of legal source(s)

  • Executive Order on Premium Tariff for Test Wind Turbines within National Test Centres
  • Executive Order on Premium Tariff for Test Wind Turbines outside National Test Centres

Description of support scheme

Wind turbines for testing purposes (test wind turbines) are exempted from tenders and instead supported through a premium tariff. Funds have been allocated for the scheme until 2021 and further funds have been reserved for 2022-2024. The scheme distinguishes between test wind turbines within and outside the two national test centres in Østerild and Høvsøre. The premium tariff is granted through annual application rounds with a set deadline (Climate Agreement 2020; Executive Order on Premium Tariff for Test Wind Turbines within National Test Centres; Executive Order on Premium Tariff for Test Wind Turbines outside National Test Centres)

Amount

For the 2020 application round within the national test centres the premium tariff was 0.0026 EUR/kWh (0.0197 DKK/kWh). 40 MW were available and granted on a first come first served basis (§ 6 Executive Order on Premium Tariff for Test Wind Turbines within National Test Centres).
For the 2020 application round outside the national test centres the premium tariff was 0.0021 EUR/kWh (0.0154 DKK/kWh). 30 MW were available and granted on a first come first served basis (§ 6 Executive Order on Premium Tariff for Test Wind Turbines outside National Test Centres).

Addressees

All developers of test wind turbine projects as described above. Applicants may not be in financial difficulty (§ 3 Executive Order on Premium Tariff for Test Wind Turbines within National Test Centres; § 3 Executive Order on Premium Tariff for Test Wind Turbines outside National Test Centres).

Procedure

An application form must be filled oud and sent by email or post to DEA before the application deadline for each application round. The application must include i.a. a description of the project and documentation concerning the requirements. If granted, construction can begin. Within three months after grid-connection a two-page application form must be sent to DEA by email or post in order to receive the premium tariff. The wind turbines must be grid connected within two years from the premium tariff has been granted (§§ 7-11 Executive Order on Premium Tariff for Test Wind Turbines within National Test Centres; §§ 7-11 Executive Order on Premium Tariff for Test Wind Turbines outside National Test Centres).
