Description of support scheme

Cyprus supports the purchase and installation of rooftop PV in the domestic sector. The country issues an annual call and all interested parties can apply for a subsidy. 3 different categories are eligible for support. All installed PV installations will be connected under a net-metering scheme. The current 2021 call is open for new applications until 31 December 2021.

Amount

For Category 2: EUR 300/kW (max. amount EUR 1,200)
For Category 3a: EUR 250/kW (max. amount EUR 1,000). For mountainous areas the level of support is doubled.
For Category 3b: EUR 750/kW (max. amount EUR 3,750) (Chapter 8 Support Scheme for RES and Energy Efficiency 2021).

Addressees

Natural persons located in Cyprus are eligible for support. With regard to buildings, their owners i.e., applicants should have issued a construction license prior to 01 January 2007 (Chapter 1 Support Scheme for RES and Energy Efficiency 2021). Vulnerable customers are considered the recipients of “minimum guaranteed income” and other welfare allowances (Min. Decree 815/2015).

Procedure

For Category 2 and 3a, interested applicants should have already purchased and installed the rooftop PV installation. Then, they submit an application electronically to the RESEC Fund. If approved, the applicant submits all necessary documents and the subsidy is paid off.
For Category 3b, interested applicants should submit an application electronically before proceeding with the purchasing and installation. If they fulfill the inclusion criteria, applicants receive pre-approval and must, within 9 months, complete the investment. Then, they submit an application to the RESEC Fund. If approved, they applicant submits all necessary documents and the subsidy is paid off (Chapter 5 Support Scheme for RES and Energy Efficiency 2021).

Category 2: purchase of roof thermal insulation combined with the purchase of rooftop-PV (recommended capacity 4kW)
Category 3a: purchase and installation of rooftop-PV (recommended capacity 4kW)
Category 3b: purchase and installation of rooftop-PV for vulnerable customers (recommended capacity 5kW).
In any case, the rooftop-PV maximum capacity should not exceed 10kW (Chapter 8 Support Scheme for RES and Energy Efficiency 2021).
