Prosumers

Prosumers are very generally defined as autonomous producers that generate electricity for own consumption. The Support Scheme for RES for own consumption 2020 facilitates the installation of ground-mounted PV and/or biomass/biogas installations that will not be connected to the grid. Additionally, any successful applicant under a net-metering scheme (Support Scheme for RES and Energy Efficiency 2021 or Support Scheme for RES for own consumption 2020) can be considered as a prosumer.

With regard to autonomous producers, any enterprises that exercise commercial/ pastoral activity in Cyprus.
With regard to successful applicants under a net-metering scheme, all natural persons located in Cyprus and own a house are eligible (Chapter 1 Support Scheme for RES and Energy Efficiency 2021 & Chapter 4.5 Support Scheme for RES for own consumption 2020).

There are no specific restrictions regarding autonomous producers. Autonomous RES Systems can be installed according to the needs of the producer without any limitation regarding the maximum capacity of each plant or to the total power of the plants that will be installed. In any case, those plants will not be connected to the grid.
For the net-metering scheme under the Support Scheme for RES and Energy Efficiency 2021, building owners should have issued a construction license prior to 01 January 2017 (Chapter 1 Support Scheme for RES and Energy Efficiency 2021).

There are no geographical limitations.

The Support Scheme for RES and Energy Efficiency 2021 & Support Scheme for RES for own consumption 2020 provides subsidies for the purchase and installation of PV that will operate under a net-metering scheme.
