Clean energy for EU islands

Buildings are responsible for approximately 40% of EU energy consumption and 36% of the CO2 emissions. In EU households, heating and hot water alone account for 79% of total final energy use. Although the demand for cooling is rather a small share of total final energy use, it is currently rising during the summer months - a trend that is also related to climate change the increases in temperature.

This webinar included an introduction to building's energy efficiency and good practices in the decarbonisation of the built environment followed by the dos and don'ts both for Mediterranean and more Northern European Islands.

Speakers

  • Dirk Saelens, Professor and Head of the Building Physics Section, KU Leuven
  • Steinar Grynning, Research Manager, SINTEF
  • Dimitrios Katsaprakakis, Associate Professor, Hellenic Mediterranean University
