Giannutri

Giannutri is a small Italian island located in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the coast of Tuscany. It is the southernmost island of this archipelago. The island and its nearby marine areas fall under the Arcipelago Toscano National Park and marine sanctuary. Predominantly privately owned, certain sections belong to Italy’s Ministry of the Environment, participating in the Coastal Area Management Programme authorized by the Ministry.Assessing renewable energy is a fundamental step towards the energy transition, as the island is heavily dependent on fossil fuels.

Report: Technical Assistance for Syros

Syros municipality has been proactive in preparation of mandatory Electric Vehicle Charging Plan in coordination with distribution system operator, HEDNO. The plan has been adopted and it foresees thirty four charging locations on the island. Based on the previously analysed implementation approaches, the municipality has been considering partner collaboration through joint-venture or concession approach.

Report: Technical Assistance for Thira

Thira applied with the project Energy Upgrades in the Port Infrastructure of Thira for the second call for technical assistance from the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat in April 2022. A Scope Definition meeting took place on 31 May 2022 between DAFNI, Protasis and the Islands secretariat to agree on the final scope of the project and define the tasks. This report is the final deliverable of the project.

Technology solutions booklet

The Technology solutions booklet provides an overview of energy technologies that are currently commercially available for islands to advance in their clean energy transition. Technologies are grouped per sector: electricity, heating and cooling, transport, and storage. For each technology, a short description is first presented, followed by its pros and cons for its implementation on islands. Finally, island examples are provided to give inspiration and explain how European islands are adopting these technologies in practice.
