The European Energy Communities Facility aims to empower and support the development of emerging energy communities across Europe. Small lump sum grants (45.000 euros) will assist at least 140 energy communities in developing and implement solid business plans for their sustainable energy projects. The first call for applications will be launched in June 2025, and a second call will follow in September 2026. The calls will be open to energy communities from any EU Member State, Iceland and Ukraine.
The European Energy Communities Facility will also provide targeted training and hands-on capacity building to support local initiatives in developing their projects and implementing sustainable, replicable business models. Additionally, it will create valuable resources for energy communities, including an overview of national legislation, a mapping of funding opportunities, and a directory of one-stop shops across Europe. Launched in September 2024 and set to run until February 2028, the project builds on the successful experiences of the Energy Communities Repository, the Rural Energy Communities Advisory Hub and the European City Facility.
The value proposition for collaborationL
Within the European Energy Communities Facility framework—a 42-month initiative launched in September 2024 and running until February 2028—we seek to establish collaboration and synergies with other strategic initiatives related to energy transition and energy communities, such as the Smart Cities Marketplace and the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat.
The main objectives of this collaboration are to explore synergies, align efforts, and establish effective communication channels. By working together, we aim to enhance the visibility of relevant project outcomes, create opportunities for cross-promotion, and foster mutual learning. 2 Ultimately, this collaboration aims to maximise the impact of our initiatives towards final beneficiaries.
Proposal of Collaboration - SYNERGIES | COMMUNICATION | EFFECTIVENESS
The European Energy Communities Facility (EECF) proposes to organise one hybrid strategic dialogue meeting with key relevant initiatives with the purpose of ● Getting to know each other
● Sharing brief information on the scope and key expected outputs to help us identify synergies
● Discuss ways of collaboration, namely communication channels.
