Clean energy for EU islands

EUSEW: Lessons on climate neutrality and energy independence from the EU islands

Join our EUSEW session together with the Smart Cities Marketplace to learn about transition experience of small-scale islands towards clean energy and energy independence with the (smart) cities and communities of the EU. EU islands are to coping with many of the issues the EU as a whole now faces: expensive energy provision, the need for solidarity measures, dependence on fossil fuels and lack of interconnections, the challenge of stable grids while developing independent clean energy systems, the competition for scarce land resources. EU islands striving for climate neutrality have had to be creative in finding solutions for the challenges of seasonality, intermittency, and non-interconnectedness.
