The European Union's Island Facility NESOI is finalising the organisation to host its final event on 28 February 2024 at Le Bouche à Oreille in Brussels. Titled "Empowering Islands: NESOI's Grand Finale - Shaping the Future of Clean Energy," the event will deepen into the outcomes of NESOI project and those of its beneficiaries presented by project coordinator Mr Andrea Martinez, and explore the continued energy needs of European islands in their journey towards zero-emissions.

Martina Cannata, Technical assistance task leader of the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat (3E), will hold a presentation about what islands still need after looking at the already obtained results at 10:10 CET.

Within the framework of the NESOI initiative, the emphasis on sustainable energy solutions is closely linked to the distinctive ecosystem of European islands. The event acknowledges the inherent challenges and opportunities within these island environments, highlighting the necessity of tailoring energy transition plans to suit their unique characteristics. The island ecosystem, characterized by geographical diversity and close-knit communities, acts as a testing ground for innovative approaches that can be extrapolated to benefit the wider continent.

Attendees can anticipate discussions on the legacy of NESOI, a presentation of the Replication Guide by Mr. Mario Cortese (R2M Italy) and the NESOI one- stop shop platform, and a Q&A session moderated by Janire García from ZABALA Innovation. The event serves as a platform for stakeholders, policymakers, and industry representatives to engage in the dialogue surrounding sustainable energy solutions, either for islands.... or not!

NESOI recognizes the importance of involving local stakeholders in this process, fostering a collaborative environment where islands can exchange experiences and best practices. By cultivating a deeper understanding of the island ecosystem, the NESOI initiative seeks to pave the way for a sustainable and resilient energy future that caters specifically to the needs of European islands.
