In October 2020, the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat (with the support of Energie Samen, the umbrella organisation of the renewable energy communities in the Netherlands, and the municipality of Texel) hosted two online sessions for the energy transition of the Frisian and Wadden Sea islands.
During the first session (1 October), the focus was on the Dutch Wadden Sea Islands: their efforts and challenges as well as the opportunities to advance their transition to renewable energy.
The focus of the second session (15 October) broadened covering issues of relevance for the energy transition of all Frisian and Wadden Sea islands. We talked about good practices regarding citizen engagement, municipal initiatives, and the importance of establishing partnerships for the energy transition. Furthermore we heard more about the financing opportunities offered by NESOI, the European Islands Facility.
