Workshop: Innovative application of the photovoltaic technology

PV workshop

Within the technical assistance provided to the 30 for 2030 islands and islands groups, special attention is placed on giving the local teams the tools and knowledge to support them in developing renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. With this objective, the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat is organising a series of 20 workshops over three years to promote capacity building on relevant topics.

The workshops are held in person on selected islands and involve representatives from the island transition teams of a varying number of interested islands. A knowledge-sharing strategy is envisioned after each workshop for all the 30for2030 islands and islands groups to benefit from all the discussions taking place. This workshop, which focuses on the topic of " Innovative application of the photovoltaic technology ", is part of this series.

This workshop explored innovative photovoltaic (PV) applications with a particular focus on contexts of island and non-interconnected systems. It combined technical, spatial and innovation perspectives, highlighting best practices from the 30for2030 and other European islands.

The workshop participants visited the floating PV plant recently installed in the water basin of Inca, in Mallorca. The plant, financed with the NextGeneration EU Recovery and Resilience Plan and realised by the Balearic Islands Autonomous Community, has an installed power of 1.48 MW and occupies about the 27% of the total area of the pond. Besides generating renewable electricity, the plant contributes to limiting evaporation.
