This report presents a comprehensive strategy to realise a fossil fuel-free and, in general, less car-dependent Visby Inner City, centred on reducing car usage and fostering alternative, sustainable transportation modes. The Inner City of Visby is the historical area located inside the city walls. The vision is not merely to replace conventional vehicles with electric ones, but to rethink the role of cars entirely in urban spaces. The aim is to create a city where the emphasis shifts from car ownership to mobility options that are shared, electric, and active. This vision incorporates a range of strategies—from expanding public transport networks and implementing low-emission zones to enhancing infrastructure for cycling, walking, and electric vehicle usage.
These changes will bring a range of multifaceted benefits to the island, including environmental, economic, and social improvements.
