Gotland is currently exploring hydrogen as a potential solution to further promote sustainable energy, maximise local RES exploitation (through power-to-hydrogen solutions) and address curtailment challenges that it’s facing mostly due to the limited capacity of its interconnection with the mainland.
This study aims to provide a first assessment of potential hydrogen off-takers to be intercepted on the island beyond the “Gotland Horizon” initiative. The analysis identifies barriers and opportunities associated with such off-takers and includes a preliminary estimation of their potential annual off-taking. The analysis of the potential off-takers provides the basis for a SWOT analysis, and the conclusions present an initial prioritisation of potential off-takers to be engaged in Gotland's hydrogen transition beyond the ongoing promotion of hydrogen in the maritime sector.
