Views from the islands: The energy transition happens

In this video, Alejandro Ulzurrun—Head of the unit at the European Commission responsible for Just Transition, Local Initiatives, and Consumers—reports from the Clean Energy for EU Islands Forum 2025, held in the Azores. There, he met with stakeholders, experts, and island representatives from across the EU to explore how the islands can play a leading role in the energy transition.

Alejandro Ulzurrun reflects on the strong cooperation and energy at the event, emphasising that many practical ideas and experiences from people working on the ground will be brought back to Brussels and incorporated into EU policy. He underscores the urgency and importance of shaping a new framework and budget for the EU to accelerate the energy transition so that it is fair to all citizens—including those living on EU islands.
