EEG 2025
Description of support scheme
In Germany, electricity producers can benefit from the feed-in tariff for electricity generated from renewable sources with a capacity of up to 100 kW for a period of 20 years.
Also, energy producers with plants older than 20 years, where the original subsidies have phased out, can continue to receive remuneration based on the average annual market value for electricity of that type.
Energy producers benefiting from the feed-in tariff are obliged to feed the produced electricity into the public grid and provide it to the grid operator, unless it is consumed in direct proximity of the site. They are also prohibited from participating in the electricity market with the subsidized power plant.
Energy producers remain eligible for the feed-in tariff even if the electricity is temporarily stored before being fed into the grid.
Competent authority
1. Grid Operators (Netzbetreiber)
- Main point of contact for producers: Grid operators are responsible for paying the feed-in tariff to eligible electricity producers.
- They also handle technical grid connection, energy metering, and payment settlements.
- There are different types of grid operators:
2. Bundesnetzagentur (Federal Network Agency)
- Supervises the regulatory framework and ensures compliance with the EEG.
- Operates the Marktstammdatenregister (MaStR), where all installations must be registered.
- Monitors grid operator performance and handles auctions for larger renewable systems.
