This #CE4EUislands webinar, focusing on the topic of "Hydrogen technologies: Production, storage and utilisation in remote energy systems ", is part of the workshop series.
This webinar offers a critical overview of recent developments in the hydrogen sector, helping to distinguish policy ambitions from technical and economic realities. Particular attention is given to island contexts, where hydrogen can play a strategic role in decarbonizing maritime transport and providing long-duration energy storage. This addresses key challenges faced by isolated, non-interconnected energy systems.
Drawing on European experiences and practical case studies, the webinar will explore concrete opportunities, limitations, and replicable approaches for integrating hydrogen into island energy systems.
Within the framework of the technical assistance provided to the 30 for 2030 islands and island groups, special attention is given to providing local teams with the tools and knowledge to support them in developing RE and EE projects.
With this objective, the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat is organising a series of 20 workshops over the course of three years to promote capacity building on relevant topics.
The workshops are held in person on selected islands and involve representatives from the island transition teams of various interested islands. A knowledge-sharing strategy is envisioned for each workshop, enabling all 30 for 2030 islands and island groups to benefit from the discussions taking place.
